When I was younger I had encountered the same problems. I resolved at that time to grow a moustache, and it has solved all my irritated folicle problems. I keep it trimmed very close with a shaver, and I have not encountered any mouthpiece seal/"grip" problems resulting from this. As a matter of fact, I shaved it off for basic training and tried to play, and found I had better results with the moustache. I can't guarantee it will work for you, but it certainly has for me.
