I also believe in a simple solution. Since you live in Florida, you should have some Teflon tape somewhere in your garage. (You know, that place you keep all the beer) Anyway, It's usually used to keep the cheap components of sprinkler systems water tight. It you put a thin strip on the screw, it should take up enough space to keep the screw from backing out.

Another idea...get some rubber cement. Put a litte dab on, and put the screw back in. The cement will hold the screw in place, but it can still easily be taken out. (That's what Kevin Powers does for my horns)

I am curious....I have this same problem on both my C and F tubas. The strange thing is that it only happens on the third valve....any ideas why?
