What I considered unsupported was your statement: "...the FACT that most folks who switch to CC become better players as a result..." Most folks who switch to CC may become better players, but I was doubting that switching to CC was the main cause of becoming better.
Regarding P.C. stuff, I also hope to remain non-correct. Regarding the amount of tubing length difference between BBb and CC tubas, it is about 12%. [The difference between Eb and F tubas is the same percentage.] My day job is engineer, and I should stick with numbers, rather than adjectives like "big" and "small."
And, for the original poster, I'll repeat my advice to seek a good teacher.
