How physically strong are your trombone chops?

I would start doing some kind of daily routine on trombone (scales, slurs, careful practice in the lead trombone register, articulation, etc.) If the gig is an important one, and if you don't have any critical tuba performances coming up, I would do the trombone routine each day before picking up the tuba. Treat the trombone like your primary instrument for a few weeks.

Start with short sessions.

If you need to sound good on tuba in the meantime, or if this is just a "for fun" gig, disregard the above advice. Your tuba playing will probably suffer the least if it remains your primary instrument, while you gradually work in practicing the trombone.

Good luck (bring ice to the gig!)
