According to Car and Driver, the current Protege is probably the best small car for the money, and the Protege5 is just as good. The VW is a great choice if you like the German quality, but it won't come too cheaply. Depending on whether you buy a new one or not, reliability is questionable. Subaru is fine, but get the WRX wagon if you hope to get anywhere fast. Also, the interior isn't quite up to current standards. The best tuba toter is a Chevy Suburban. No worry about fitting two,three-even four cases will fit into one> Trust me , I've done it.
