Mazda crash test/Cronkhite bags

Cronkhite bags had damn well better be as good as everyone says. While
on the way to the Post Office to send Tony Clements a money order, my
1990 Mazda Protege collided with a car travelling (quickly) from my
right to left. It was a very good simulation of hitting a brick wall at
30mph (with the added twist that the brick wall was going 50-60 mph in
the orthogonal direction).

There is now no part of my car forward of the front wheels, and I have a
seven day supply of some really good painkillers. My glasses ended up
under the passenger seat, but apparently my seatbelt did its job (which
accounts for the fact that I can still type...and also for the rather
interesting bruise going diagonally across my torso).

Just as well, the new King 2341 probably would not have fit into the 3/4
sized Japanese car (although...my 3/4 sized Japanese tuba, a YBB-621S,
fit in the trunk, in its hard case). Don't worry, Lee - it wasn't in
the car; your handiwork is still intact.

I'm now in the market for a new tuba-toter. Leading candidates are:

VW GTI (Sean says it can take 2 flight cases)
Subaru Impreza Wagon (Rick likes the 4-wheel drive)
Mazda Protege5 "wagon" (loyalty might count for *something*)

I think I'll wait for the pain killers (and the need for pain killers)
to wear off, and also for the MTS case I ordered from Matt (to protect
the 2341) to arrive. I'm looking forward to the look in the car
salesmen's eyes when I tell them that the tuba case has to go in and out
easily!

Undeterred, I did make it to the PO to send off my money order (before
heading for the ER). Again, that Cronkhite bag had better be worth it!
