I think you got it right...the big F tubas like the Yamaha 822 and the 45SLP are the ones with the low range but they loose some of that special F tuba sound on the mids and highs. The 182 and 621 are small, but I've found them both to be great horns low and high, just not what I was looking for. I have a very early PT-10, and while the low range is very difficult, the sound of the horn is to die for and the mid and high ranges are spot on. You are seeking the kind of F tuba that we are all looking for, which many have realized simply does not exist.

Perhaps an Eb would be better suited to your low range demands.
