About the Ftuba on the Firebird. I believe that for every piece and situation, there is the right horn for the job. I own both a c and f tuba, and personally, I like the Ctuba sound, but I don't think the Ftuba is a bad idea. It really comes down to what sounds the best in the orchestra and makes you the most comfortable. Now, depending on which edition you are playing, the tuba has very few notes or no notes at all before you have to come in and play depth charges. Some of those notes are risky on Ctuba, and it may be worth it to try out your F tuba on this piece. A few months ago, I played Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony with a local orchestra, and I played the entire piece on a Yamaha 822 f tuba. I t was perfect, and I kept getting the hand from the conductor. It was the perfect horn for that situation. OK,I hope this helps. Good luck.
