Okay, the Tubachristmas comment *was* unfair, I apologize.
However, I think you might be missing the point that I WAS trying to make, something that one particular response I've read sort of supports - if someone is a really great musician and trying to play the best they can aren't they trying to blend in with the ensemble, thus NOT getting the fabled "hand" that many low brass players (not just tuba players) brag about getting all the time? The players and musicians I've been fortunate enough to work with wouldn't ever GET the hand, let alone brag about it. Do your teachers get the hand?
Anyway, I don't want to labor the point anymore - just wanted to give you something to think about.
