This is exactly the setup I use (Sony MD model MZ-R700 + Audio Technica microphone AT-822). I think it works great. My only complaint is finding a way to transfer the MD recordings I've made onto my computer so that I may burn them onto CD. Otherwise, this setup provides a really quality product.
