I must disagree with your opinion regarding the projection aspect of these horns, especially the 52J. I was impressed with one of these horns enough to take one out on approval. After playing it with the orchestra in a large hall, I returned it.
I think the deceptive thing about these horns is that in the immeadiate vicinity there IS alot of sound. The fact that the trombone players next to you can hear the tuba better gives players a false idea about the sound out in the hall. The sound just does not carry.
