How are YOU sitting? Are you sitting up straight, bending sideways, etc? What are you doing with your hands, wrists, and whatnot?

It blew my mind to see a kid at a Tubachristmas whose back was so bent that his head was almost beyond his right hip. Sit up straight -- as if you didn't even have an instrument in front of you -- and bring the horn to you. It's only a hunk of metal, and doesn't know where to be -- you're the one in control. If you really need to adjust the leadpipe, thumb ring, or whatever, then do it. If you need to get some version of tuba stand to achieve your goal, then go ahead and get one (I've tried a stand, and although it wasn't for me, I'm not about to rag on anybody's personal preferences).
