Here's the deal. If you want a great sounding horn w/ no intonation issues, go w/ the Yamaha. I am playing on a government 642 instead of my Willson ans I love it. If you do get a Besson make sure you get the Steve Mead model b/c it has the tuning kicker device. With this, Boosey has finally admitted that after 100 years of making Euphoniums that they can't make a horn that plays in tune w/ itself in all the ranges. As for that 'famous Besson sound' (btw, what exactly is the definition of that sound?) the Mead model has a nice one. Be prepared to sit down with about ten Bessons before you buy one b/c consistency is sketchy at best.
Here's a question, why did Boosey ever switch there bell flares from the original F tuba flare to the present day trumpet-esque flare?
