Isn't it wonderful for OSU to give someone an honorary doctorate for their contributions to knowledge versus hoping for donations? Paul told me last month that the tuba section was going to be Jim Aikens, Bob Leblanc, Loras Schissel, Gary Tirey, and Tony Zelinsic. A number of people who regularly play with Keith Brion really regretted the orchestra jobs getting in the way of participating.

It was really interesting to note at the band history conference this summer how many of the presentations simply wouldn't have been possible without Paul's research efforts. Not only has he written, but he has contributed so much to preservation of band history and in inspiring others to do research. He has a wall of theses and dissertations in his study sent by people he has generously added in their research (or employed).

...And he can play that old Martin, too!
