I disagree that the only "good" music is that of the old masters.

How are we to know whether original solo tuba music is good or not if no one wants to play that music?

Admittedly, I like music that has tonality, melodic material, and people enjoy listening to, but without composers creating new music for us and generations to come, what do we leave to them? We must continue to get new music and play it.

The James Grant consortium is a good example of "new music". It, so far, has been very good and much needed. Then again, it's "new" so does that make it bad?

Arrangements of old music or music from other instruments are just that, arrangements and they convey the abilities of the person doing the arrangement. Don't like the arrangement? Do one of your own. If you don't like something, just don't buy it. That's a better statement to the composer or arranger than this forum.

Just my opinion.
