Absolutely trumpets are conical.

Find ONE spot on a standard trumpet - other than the tuning slide and valve section (same as a cornet) that DOES NOT expand (as a "cone"). Moreover, the only "conical" parts of a cornet are its mouthpipe and its bell, and the only conical parts of a trumpet are its mouthpipe and its bell.

A more accurate cornet/trumpet comparison might be:

Cornets are conical. Trumpets are conical. Trumpets start out a little bit larger than cornets, but both end up about same size by the time they reach the main tuning slide.
