It is my understanding that FFFF is not a legitimate dynamic marking. What the editor was likely trying to get across is that at this point in the music, you should be at maximum volumn as compared to the previous markings. You never should play, or try to play, beyond your personal limits. The instrument you are playing is just part of the limits. Equally important is balance of the ensemble. The job of the director of ensembles that do not have the ideal balance of various instruments is to make sure that the under-powered low brass sections are not blown out by the25 trumpets who all want to show off high C at FFFFFF. Of course professional groups are able to have a numeric balance of instruments, but the director still has that responsiblilty of ensemble. If every player in the band would think of the ensemble sound, the director's task would be must simpler, and the overall sound would be much better.
