I have heard that Yamaha tends to use thinner metal in bells of their instruments than other companies. I have played a 967 Besson side beside with a 641 Yamaha, and the Besson is far far superior in every quality except in intonation in the extreme high register. This can be cured with a little lipping and alternate fingerings-- the bad sound quality of the yamaha isn't that easily fixed.
