Like Jay had said, a funel mouthpiece can do that to some players. I had a similar problem with a PT-42 when I used to play on that. I have since switched mouthpieces 4 times and found one that works with me perfectly. Also, Frank, I am unaware of your level of playing (ie. high school, college, pro, middles school, etc). I have heard some high school and a few college people who don't put enough air thru the horn (scared of going deaf or something)so you hear all sorts of hissing sounds coming out of the bell. Projection and continuity of air flow will fix that problem. I hope that angle might help! :)
