Good tone quality is good tone quality no matter what kind of instrument is used. Tone quality is determined not by the instrument used, but by the quality of buzz and the overall use of air. If your tone quality is not what the teacher wants, then he/she has to introduce the sound wanted to you. You have to then practice that sound over and over. Changing horns never solves that problem. If you sound bad on one horn, you are guaranteed to continue to sound bad until you replace bad habits with the good ones.

Buzz a good sound on your mouthpiece and you will play a good sound on your horn. Use more air in a more consistent way and you will begin to sound musical and not blatty. Listen to the artists play, any instrument will do, and you will hear how a musician shapes a phrase.

Remember, the horn will never solve a problem, just change the way it sounds a little.
