One or two flute makers market flutes of pure palladium and a few of palladium-copper alloys. I've wondered if the palladium thing was a result of the "cold fusion" craze of the early 80's and the sudden increase in demand for what had been a rather obscure metal.

At any rate, if there's an interesting material that seems to offer superior acoustic properties to the plain old brasses, I suspect we'll see it in the higher brasses before we see it in tubas mostly because the smaller tooling costs less and the market's larger.
