I agree with every other post here. Let me add a few things:
I have hired some excellent euphonium players over the years. Some were veterans of the service bands, others of the circus bands, but ALL of them played tropmbone as well, and ALL of them could play in any clef I put in front of them - as a PRACTICAL necessity.

One of the handy things about the Youff is that you can have cover a second basson part, or a tenor sax part - what with cut-down bands, that's a skill.

Tell him to stop being lazy and get with it - clefs (bass, tenor,and alto) come with the turf, along with the trombone!

FYI I just finished a run of Ragtime with a summer theatre company, doubling tuba and euphonium - and no kidding parts on BOTH.
