If your son wants to become a musician, he will have to learn bass clef eventually. If he wants to make a career of it (I know it's too early to know) he should learn to play trombone ASAP.
There's precious little work for a euphonium. Think about it, even a quintet expects to have a trombone, not a euphonium. There are no orchestral euphonium openings, there are only a few military openings. Learn trombone and play for life. Play euphonium because it sounds so good.
