I once sat in as an adjunct adult player at the local college in their concert band. The fellow sitting next to me didn't have a bass clef copy of the piece we were rehearsing. I asked him if he'd like to read from mine, a treble clef part, and he said his Euphonium teacher told him that real euphonium players play bass clef. To which I replied, "No! Real euphonium players play both." I couldn't begin to count the number of missing parts, mostly community band venues, and ended up having to play the "opposite clef"

Also, very early on in my playing experience, I was invited to sub in a German band. At the time I didn't read treble clef so imagine my hysteria when I was given a mittful of treble parts. Embarrassment is a great motivator!!!
