Consider buying a straight tenor, and for these reasons. One, they are cheaper, and if you get a call for tenor, you aren't likely to be playing much low register. Secondly, as I am primarily a tubist and double on bass trombone, a medium-to-smaller tenor is recommended, and helps me sound more like a trombone and less like a slide euphonium. I have done quite a bit of doubling on tenor in the last few years, always on a straight horn, all with a good-to-great slide, (I know a repairman ;^), and none of them cost over $300.00. I have used an old Super Olds, a Silver-Sonic King 3-B, a Holton Collegiate, a B&S straight tenor, and my favorite, a Blessing tenor. Any make or model straight tenor will serve you well. If you get to a gig and they ask you to play first, you'll be glad you have a smaller horn!
