Could be where the mic was placed for the recording - a conductor I worked with told me once to ALWAYS play slightly ahead of the beat because of the time it takes the note to register to a listener's ear. While that generalization might not ALWAYS be true, I find that it is true more often than not (particularly in marches and waltzes)
