well, Bernstein succeeded in making the 7th sound not only a whole lot more powerful, but also more creepy and eerie sounding by taking it a lot slower in his Chicago Symphony remake for DG. That's the only radically different recording of the piece that I know of. By and large, I really like the Kurt Masur/N.Y.P.O. one on Teldec. Needless to say, Warren sounds great (duhh!).
