Boy, I'm really walking on either coals or thin ice (not sure which, but certain that its one or the other) here, but I notice as I look around that Gene Porkorny hasn't added chunks of stuff nor levers and springs to his York copy nor "the" York (even though "the" York is possibly 15%-20% buffed away) and Roger Bobo's little F tuba like yours seems to have no contraptions nor gimmicks attached, even though both you and I play well enough to detect its minor quirks. I believe that Ron Bishop owns an old 184-CC that I bought new in about 1976. I added a 5th valve to that instrument. I haven't heard of Mr. Bishop adding any more chunks of stuff to it.

Joe "who observes that many at the top of their game seem to happily play off-the-shelf instruments...Is there a reason?" S.
