I'll respectfully disagree about Reynolds sousaphones -- I've played several and I've yet to find one that was up to the level of the average King or Conn, let alone the really good Kings and Conns I've played over the past 40 years. I will agree, however, that they are very easy to overblow: when I was in the band at VMI in the late '60's the director replaced a set of 8 little Conn uprights (15J maybe) which we were marching with in leather buckets, British style, with a set of 8 Reynolds sousaphones. (We'd asked for Conn 20K's or King 1250's, but it was a money issue). The were all very mediocre horns and far far easier to overblow than the little Conn uprights and the Conns had far better intonation and better low ranges.
