As for a bag here is my recommendation and why: Get a bag from Dolly Bags. They might be a little heavier than others, but it is from those plastic "ribs" that are inserted in between the outer shell and padding. This does an excellent job in protecting my 6/4 and I also like top loading bags as opposed to side loaders because they seem easier to use and the zipper can't break and let the horn fall out.
As far as a mute, I use a cheap R&S adjustable mute because it gets in the way the least out of the mutes out there and does an adequate job for the money(even though I hate playing with mutes).
