A very knowledgeable engineer, collecting and playing tubas, told me:

"Harv is an honest dealer (I have dealt with him) and he knows his tubas".

As I do know the quoted person, I would not hesitate to deal with Harvey. As I am in no acute need for any instruments, then I usually am outbid on eBay. As a whole my collection could not have been the one it is, if I had payed normal market prices for all the items. Part of the fun in collecting is to optimise the quality to price ratio. It takes a lot of research and luck.

My reason to open this thread was to spread the news about a piece of tuba history being offered for sale. Whether my alert is relevant is a question to be judged by bord readers themselves. And the responses can be seen to be diverse.

PS: These large sousaphones are told to me to be rather rare.

PS2: One of the reasons for their rarity, besides their weight and original, higher prices, might be because they are not for middle of the road players in the way they should be handled musically. Never intended to alert middle of the roader’s. At least about this instrument.
