The Walter Sear tuba made in Belgium was nickel plated. However i have a Hall&Quimby tenor which is nickel and I've been working on an E.G.Wright over the shoulder tenor which is nickel and come to think of it my friend's Boston Musical Instrument tuba is nickel.
I have the King baritone horn that my grandfather bought for my dad in 1936 when he was a kidand the valves seem pretty good but the horn was never played that much. The problem with using copper would seem to be that the metals would be so similar and permit galling which wouldn't be such a problem with dissimilar metals.
