Has anyone tried Sports Express to ship a tuba? The America West Airline website indicates that it will refuse to accept as cargo something with the dimensions of a tuba flight case (in excess of total dimensions of 80 inches), although it indicates that the additional "baggage" fee for an item in the 70 to 100 pound range is $80 which seems reasonable enough to me.
Anybody having any experiences with particular airlines regarding excess size/weight charges for tubas? Knock on wood, but until now, we have never been charged for the tuba, but are certainly prepared to pay, and don't want to get in a situation where my son arrives at the airport only to have the tuba "refused."
