I recently acquired an old Martin top action 3 valve bell front BBb. In spite of obvious age and a couple of "battle scars" the horn plays quite nicely. The bell is in particularly good shape for an old horn.

I've been trying to find out more about Martin, their history, what types and models of horns they made, etc, but have pretty well drawn a blank using Google, etc., aside from turning up a couple of photos here and there.

Apparently Martin never sold the quantities that Conn did, and I don't recall coming across them when I was in school bands lo these many years ago (OK, late 40's to early 60's), although Mirafone, Conn, Buescher, York, etc were quite common. Matt Walters told me once that he could go a few years at a time without seeing one come up for sale, so I may not be the only one short of knowledge on the subject.

In any case, I'd certainly appreciate any info or leads that some of the more knowledgeable folks here could provide.
