Oddly enough, I agree with most of your statement about single rotor horns. They are easier to handle if you are not going to spend the time playing bass bone as a major instrument.

I would advocate the second rotor in Mary Ann's case because of her (implied) lack of reach for 6th and 7th positions with ease if she is going to be playing below the staff with regularity. Otherwise, a single rotor is a good choice.

Yamaha does make a detachable second valve horn, the 622 if I am not mistaken. This might be a good alternative if she wants to spend a little money.

In my playing, I like to play F in 2nd with second valve for tuning. I also like BBb in (AT)7 with both valves when I am playing long notes.
