Actually the sizes 642 and 842 bell are identical.

With regard to valves of these two horns, they are actually identical as well....Both are monel, and have the same throw (I measured), etc. HOWEVER, the false hand piece of the 842 appears to be higher than on the 642. That gives the valves on the 842 a better and faster feel. And I'm guessing that about the Prestige as well (although I haven't measured).

When I did an EXTENSIVE play test of the two compensating Yamahas not long ago, I really liked what I thought were the superior ergonomics of the 842. Sitting down changed everything...yeah, the valves still felt better on the 842, but the leadpipe placement on the 642 is better for tall folks...simply put it is higher on the bell so no "pillow" is necessary. I had to use a "pillow" for playing the 842 (and for my old Willson 2900). This won't be a big deal if you aren't tall.
