Interesting what you say about the size of the throat for the recording bell on your York Master. My forward bell (which is, of course, detachable) has no larger a throat than the straight bell, though the diameter is a bit larger (22"). I'll have to measure to be sure.

I have also noticed that the forward bell affects intonation slightly, but in my opinion not for the better. The real intonation problems on this horn were related, in my opinion, to the improper taper in the mouthpiece receiver. The intonation is not perfect even now, but it is manageable, and the sound I get from this tuba is worth the small effort I put into managing pitch.

Now, I just need to practice more.
