Open a new can of worms because this is one of "those" topics.

The opinions run the gamut of they're the greatest, insert your own type valve, to they're the worst, and again insert your own type valve.

The best idea in selecting an instrument is to play on both and see which horn gives you the best overall sound combined with the best intonation. Pistons or rotary valves don't have anything to do with what an instrument sounds like per se, nor with the intonation of said instrument. Purchase an instrument because it "says" something to you or sounds the best and plays the best in tune or .... You play it, nobody else. We each have an opinion of which is the best and many will give it. Here's mine. I have one of each (piston CC and rotary F) and some things I like about each. Would I switch? Only if I found a much better instrument. The criteria would still be based on sound quality, intonation, and how it felt ergonomically.

just my opinion
