As one who has not done the Atkins diet, but has lost 40 lbs of weight on other diets I can tell you this: The Atkins diet, as you know, allows for little or no carbohydrates to be ingested. This leads to a major metabolic malfunction. Carbohydrates are required to create energy for the body to perform. Once the carbs are gone then the body will metabolize fat. If you are eating a 40-30-30 diet (40% calories from carbs, 30% calories from protiens, and 30% from fats) then you will ignite your metabolism to burn fat, therefore losing fat without losing muscle. The Atkins diet helps people lose weight without increasing their metabolism. I personally would recommend that you try something else along with a quality excersize program. Good personal health will protect you from what you encountered in most cases. Excersize and good diet is the key to quality mental and physical performance which music combine both of.
