Fletcher had one of the earliest Holtons on the "York" model, if not the first, and it was a 5-valve instrument. I'll stand corrected if anyone has more factual information than this, but I believe it was first received by Arnold Jacobs who put it through its paces for a few concerts at Ravinia, sold it to Bob Tucci, who sold it in turn to Fletcher. As for that low Eb, that particular Holton was not typically problematic in that register, and Fletcher, extremely concientious as he was, would have transcended any problems in any case.
