I played my school's old Renolds tuba with a recording bell for two years. The sucker weighed a bajillion pounds (probably more than it originally wieghed due to many 're-dips'). Anywho, when I wasnt playing it I just sat it down on the chair between my legs and put my left arm between the bell and the top bow. when I played this monster I was lucky enough to be able to set it on the chair between my legs and it was just the right height. That pretty much kept it from sliding from side to side and my left hand kept it secure in any other aspect of it's instability. It was a fun horn to play at the time but I guess that was because I had gone from a really crappy tuba to the somewhat crappy Renolds (i.e. I didnt know any better).

hmmm... I think I'll post some pictures of that old beast.

Cheers,
