So... this is why I play tuba

I had decided a number of years ago that I just didn't have the desire or ability to make my living as a tubist. Now, after serving as a band director in the public schools and at the university level, I have found myself once again taking tuba lessons and performing again. It is wonderful!!!!

Tonight I performed a recital for a miniscule crowd of 25-50 people. As sad as the attendendence may have been, I have never felt more at home. Playing in bands and orchestras is great. Directing ensembles is also very fullfilling. However, the primacy of being on stage and connecting with an audience is a feeling that I have sincerely missed. I am no great soloist like Roger Bobo, but tonight I was reminded of why I chose music for my livelyhood: music is my art.
