I was a student of Sande's for a few years and think very highly of him (even 14 years later). He is an excellent instructor and takes a personal interest in his students and their success. He also works to develop the entire musician, not just the tuba player. One thing you may also consider a plus is that he is primarily an orchestral player (principle KSO) and an excellent conductor working with the UT Orchestra, and the Knoxville Youth Symphony orchestra. His background is pretty interesting as well.
Sande isn't nearly as "high profile" as Winston Morris but IMHO UTK has a great music program. Plus the band goes EVERYWHERE with the football team... all expenses paid... and they win.
