To get a comfortable position of the thumb ring on the Besson 983
move it to just below the ferrul where it is now located. To do this
remove the thumb ring assembly and remove the approx. 1/32 inch cork
and replace it with 1/16 inch thick cork. This can be obtained from
a hardware store or your instrument repair shop. The thicker cork
allows for a secure fit on the smaller tubing. With the thumb ring
in this position it now can be adjusted to a very comfortable
position.
