You just can not beat the sound of an Alex F in my opinion. Finding a good one that has a solid low end can be a challenge, but when you find one, keep it and learn it! The 6 valve version would be prefered. To me the intonation issues are worth it.
Another favorite of mine is the MW45s. These are fabulous F tubas that play very well in tune and have a solid low end to boot.
I have played one Gronitz piston F that was great! Pitch was a problem on the one I played due to a smaller receiver.
Or you can go the route of many and find a goodB&S. My opinion is that the older ones play better than the newer ones.
