German traditional "Es ritten drei Reiter" set for Brass Quintet by Klaus Bjerre.
Parts for 2 trumpets in Bb, horn in F, trombone, and tuba.
The trumpets and the horn are treated like natural brasses. That is: they only play notes, which were available on natural trumpets and horns. The horn part uses a range of 2 octaves and a sixth. Fast triple tonguing for trumpets as well as for horn.
The trombone has an extended, sometimes even agile, role as the most active instrument. The range is two octaves and a fourth. No valve needed, as E is the lowest note.
The tuba has a maybe somewhat unusual role as "baritone" soloist in the upper range aside from some fast fingering lower down. The range of two octaves and a major second is more suited for bass tubas than for their contrabass fellows.
