Recently Tony E was looking for a smaller horn while his Holton 345 was being restored by Dan Oberloh. He had a Miraphone 182 and 1271 (?) - the 3/4 piston valve model but I can't promise the model number. The net after a lot of experimintation and several players checking them out was that the 182 was the horn of choice and he ended up buying it and sending the other back. It does have a great sound for its size and with a little TLC from Dan, the valves are very nice. In fact, I am going to borrow it for some upcoming concerts where I need a smaller horn. My Miraphone 1291 continues to garner compliments in small groups because you can play it very lightly if needed, but head to head the 182 just has a smaller sound. Logical since it is 3/4. All of this assumes a Bb horn. If you go into CC then the other suggestions makes sense here.
