sean,

I look forward to making my very last student loan payment in November. It's been a long haul, and honestly the learning experience for me was enhanced by having that extra 40 grand (loans taken over many years from the late 70's through about 89 or 90.) I still knew I'd have the means to pay them off, that was the point here. It is SO off base hearing me calling use of loans money "less worthy." What I have been saying, gentle reader, is that it IS absurd to borrow money when you have no reasonable confidence about being able to pay it back!

That said, would you honestly wish the grief you and your wife experience paying the loans off upon another without encouraging them to a) exhaust other ways to finance yourself or b) at least be planning to pay it back (meaning, a little bit of resolve to make good on the debt)?
