Well, with enough money and resources, anything's possible. Yamaha has huge operations in Xiaoshan, Guangzhou and Tianjin building pianos and electronic keyboards. (Didn't the Canadian Brass play at the Xiaoshan Factory Opening?)

According to the Musix web site, KHS-Musix (Jupiter) is making wind instruments in Tianjin. And Yamaha is in bed with KHS.

Chinese strings have gone from firewood-quality to some really respectable instruments (although the stuff suitable for kindling is still being produced)in a LOT less than 10 or 20 years.

If there's a demand, there's enough expertise to fill it. I think that the made-in-China student tuba isn't too far off, even if it does have a Yamaha name on it.

My usual idle ramblings.
