Mike Sanders, playing Sibelius's 2nd with the San Antonio Symphony, in perhaps 1982. I was in my lull between when I played as a student and when I started again as an adult. As a student, I'd never heard such sounds in eight years of playing, and I still don't on recordings. Mike's sound managed the space of the hall in ways you can't discern on a recording, and it knocked me right out of my balcony-back-row seat. It was another year before I started playing again, but hearing that sound is what made me want to do it.
